The Master’s College Women’s Volleyball Team Rallies For Win

khts_sportsThe Master’s College women’s volleyball team rallied to beat Westmont College in five games. Down two games to none, The Master’s College women won the final three games and won their first Golden State Athletic Conference match of the season.

Sam Dougherty had 13 kills for The Master’s College. Setter Jamie Long had 27 assists and Leslie Windham had 25 digs.

The College of the Canyons Athletic Hall of Fame committee has chosen its 2011 class of inductees.

The members of the 1993 state championship men’s golf team, women’s basketball player Kyetra Brown, football players Mike Herrington and Isaac Sapoaga, and women’s soccer player Kristine Marbach will be honored during the Cougar Athletic Hall of Fame induction ceremony at the Hyatt Regency in Valencia on Jan. 20.

Joe Kapp, who was the quarterback at Hart High School before playing for UC Berkeley, the Minnesota Vikings and Boston Patriots, will be the keynote speaker at the ceremony.

The Valencia Flyers hockey team opened the season winning two of three games against the Arizona Redhawks. But the Flyers have gone 2-4 since and are coming off a three-game sweep by the Idaho Junior Steelheads.

The Flyers were outscored 20-3 in the three-game weekend series against the Steelheads. John Naylor scored the lone goal for the Flyers in an 8-1 loss at the Valencia Ice Station on Sunday.

The Bakersfield Junior Condors are coming to the Ice Station this weekend for two games against the Flyers. The first game is Friday night and the second in Saturday night.

Games start at 7:15.

The Master’s College men’s soccer team beat Hope International, 3-1. Joel Peluffo recorded the hat trick, scoring three goals in the first half. His third goal in the 41st minute was assisted by David Alegria. Peluffo’s first two goals were unassisted.

Hope International scored its only goal of the game in the second half.

The Major League Baseball playoffs begin today with the start of the American and National League Division Series.

The Texas Rangers play the Tampa Bay Rays in the American League Division Series at 10:30 this morning.

The Cincinnati Reds take on the Philadelphia Phillies, the reigning National League champs, at 2 this afternoon.

The New York Yankees, the reigning World Series champions, play the Minnesota Twins tonight at 5:30.

The Kings sent goaltender Erik Ersberg and forward Rich Clune to the Manchester Monarchs of the American Hockey League.

Ersberg was 4-3-2 with a 2.40 goals against average in 11 appearances with the Kings last season. Clune played in 14 regular season games and four playoff games for the Kings last year. He scored two points, both assists, and recorded 26 penalty minutes in the regular season.
