John Gilbertson from The Master’s College will compete in the 10,000 meters at the USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Drake University in Iowa on Thursday.
He will be racing for a spot on the United States national team that will compete in the IAAF World Championships in Moscow, Russia, in August.
Gilbertson set the fastest time in the world in the 10K at the Stanford Invitational in March. He won the race in 28 minutes, 30.35 seconds.
He was third in the 10K at the NAIA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships in May and was selected as an All American.
In women’s soccer, the Santa Clarita Blue Heat beat the Bay Area Breeze, 3-1, in a W-League Western Conference game on Friday night.
Ana Borges scored two goals and Tara Corcoran scored the third for the Blue Heat, which snapped a three-game winless streak.

In golf, Justin Rose won the US Open by two strokes over Phil Mickelson and Jason Day at Merion Golf Club in Pennsylvania.
It was the first major championship for Rose and the first time a Briton has won the US Open in 40 years.
Mickelson was the runner-up for a record sixth time in the US Open.
In the NBA Finals, the San Antonio Spurs beat the Miami Heat, 114-104, in Game 5 to take a 3-2 lead in the series.
Manu Ginobili in a surprise start scored 24 points and had 10 assists for the Spurs.
Game 6 is in Miami on Tuesday.
In baseball, the Dodgers lost to the Pittsburgh Pirates, 6-3. The Pirates took two of three games against the Dodgers over the weekend. The Dodgers have lost six of their past eight games.
The Dodgers have a day off today. They continue their road trip in New York against the Yankees on Tuesday.
