The Master’s College’s John Gilbertson Wins NAIA Track Championship In 5,000 Meters

John Gilbertson from The Master’s College won the 5,000-meter race at the NAIA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Marion, Ind., and earned All-American honors.

He won the race in 14 minutes, 8.07 seconds and became the first runner from The Master’s College to win a national championship. He also earned NAIA All-American honors in the 10,000 meters after finishing third in the race.

Three other athletes from The Master’s College earned All-American honors at the NAIA Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

Saugus High graduate and freshman Karis Frankian is an All-American in the 10,000 meters after a fourth-place finish.

Hannah Kellerman earned All-American honors in the 1,500 after a sixth-place finish and set a school record in 4 minutes, 33.51 seconds.

Ayla Draper is an All-American in the 400-meter hurdles after a seventh-place finish.

In college baseball, The Master’s College lost to Faulkner from Alabama, 7-6, in the NAIA World Series in Lewiston, Idaho.

The Mustangs drop into the elimination bracket in the tournament.

Faulkner led, 7-0, before The Master’s College scored three runs in the eighth inning and three more in the ninth. But their rally fell short.

The Master’s College lost for the first time in 10 games. The Mustangs beat Northwood from Texas, 4-3, in the opening round of the NAIA World Series.

They play Lewis & Clark State at noon today.

In auto racing, AlexTagliani, driving for the Barracuda Racing team owned by Valencia’s Bryan Herta, was 24th in the Indianapolis 500 after running in the top 10 for most of the race.

Tony Kanaan won the Indy 500.

In baseball, the Dodgers beat the Angels, 8-7, in the first game of the Freeway Series. The Dodgers rallied for four runs in the fifth inning to tie the score, 6-6.

Adrian Gonzalez was 4-for-4 and scored four runs for the Dodgers.

Game 2 of the series is tonight at Dodger Stadium.

In the Stanley Cup playoffs, the Kings are home for Game 7 of the Western Conference semifinals against the San Jose Sharks tonight.

The Kings lost Game 6, 2-1, in San Jose.
