The Most Compelling Dodger Websites

By Christopher Glotfelty

The Internet has revolutionized the way we get our information. It now allows sports freaks to follow their favorite teams in a new dimension – one that brings them closer to the game than ever before. This online newsletter is just one example. Knowing that Santa Clarita has a large community of Dodger fans is reason enough to share our love for the team on the Web.

Of course, we aren’t the only ones writing about the Boys in Blue. Anybody can do so – all you need is free time, which is hard to come by. Over the years, a few truly interesting sites have sprouted that are devoted to the Dodgers. Out of the kindness of our hearts, we’re here to list them, if only to give you something to read on your lunch break (or during work, if you dare). But understand, we’d like to establish some semblance of loyalty around these parts, so make sure the Dodger Express newsletter takes precedence. We did tell you about these other guys, you know.

  • Dodger Divorce: Don’t you get the sense that a Frank and Jamie McCourt reality show would make for appointment viewing? It’s truly fascinating, in that we know every sordid detail about their failed marriage, from Jamie’s affair, her lavish spending, and Frank’s alleged abusive language toward her. This site follows every development – absurd or otherwise – on the divorce proceedings. It’ll become a guilty pleasure, but you can temper that feeling with the daunting fact that our team’s future hangs in the balance. Scary stuff.
  • Mike Scioscia’s Tragic Illness: With an affectionate nod to “The Simpsons'” episode that features the former Dodger catcher and current Angels’ manager, this blog balances humor and analysis to keep you coming back.
  • True Blue LA: Probably the most comprehensive Dodger blog on the Internet, True Blue LA is high on numbers and analysis. If you want to know how many homeruns Matt Kemp projects to hit or how many games Brad Ausmus should start in place of Russell Martin, this site is for you.
  • Dodgers Blog: Via the Los Angeles Times, the succinctly-named Dodgers Blog is updated throughout the day and is on top of every single development related to the team. It supplies much of the hard news all the other blogs use.
  • Dodger Thoughts: Bona fide Dodger fanatic Jon Weisman has had a wonderful string of success posting his musings on his favorite team. After starting his own blog with The Baseball Toaster, Dodger Thoughts subsequently moved to the Los Angeles Times. Now he’s with ESPNLosAngeles.com, where he continues to ponder, rather eloquently, how the Dodgers and baseball affect his existence.
  • Dodger Dugout: A blog that also basks in the history of the team. The owners seem to have inside sources. Maybe. The site once did a brief interview with Peter Gammons, so that’s something.
