The West Ranch softball team beat Canyon, 8-3, to improve to 2-0 in Foothill League play.
Julia Lombardi had two hits, including a double, scored twice and drove in a run for West Ranch.
Lexi Sorenson earned the win giving up eight hits and striking out five.
The Saugus softball team beat Hart, 12-2, in five innings and bounced back after losing its league opener to Valencia.
Maddy Jelenicki hit a three-run home run. Brandi Burgin earned the win in the circle for Saugus.
In high school volleyball, the Saugus boys swept Golden Valley in three games in a Foothill League match.
Max Nua led the Centurions with 15 kills.
In high school tennis, the Valencia boys shut out Saugus, 18-0, and remained undefeated at 6-0 against the Foothill League.
Valencia’s No. 1 singles player Chad LeDuff swept all three of his sets, losing only one game.
In the NHL, the Kings beat the Colorado Avalanche, 3-2 in a shootout, and snapped a little two-game losing streak.
Jeff Carter scored his 24th goal of the season and Mike Richards scored his 10th. Carter also scored one of three goals for the Kings in the shootout.
Next up for the Kings are the Anaheim Ducks at Staples Center on Saturday night.
In baseball, the Dodgers beat the San Diego Padres, 3-2, on a pinch-hit home run from Juan Uribe in the eighth inning.
But Dodgers starter Zack Greinke broke his collarbone when Carlos Quentin charged the mound after getting hit by a pitch in the sixth inning.
Both benches cleared and Matt Kemp and Jerry Hairston were ejected from the game for fighting.
When the dust settled, the Padres scored a run to tie the score, 2-2. Uribe broke the tie with his second home run of the season.
