Travis Thirkettle of Fillmore won the NASCAR Super Late Model season finale race at Toyota Speedway at Irwindale on Saturday night. It was his first win of the season and his first win since the Toyota All Star Showdown in January.
Thirkettle won the abbreviated Showdown race that was cut short because of rain. He went winless in the first 20 Super Late Model races at Irwindale before finally breaking through on the final regular season race of the year.
It was a night of twin races in the Super Late Model division. Rip Michels, a driver from San Fernando, won the first Super Late Model race. It was his third win of the season and his 60th career win at the track. He has more wins than any other driver at Irwindale.
Thirkettle was the runner-up in the first Super Late Model race.
Nick Joanides, a driver from Woodland Hills, posted a pair of top-fives and won the Super Late Model championship at the track. He was fifth in the first race, second in the second race, and won the Super Late Model championship at Irwindale for the second year in a row.
In the Legend Cars, Mark Borchetta of Valencia finished 12th, Cale Kanke of Frazier Park was 13th and Kenny Maler Jr. of Acton was 28th. Rookie Dallas Montes of Bakersfield won the Legend Cars race, his fourth in a row.
