Three Area Players Make Valley Invitational Baseball League All Star Team

sportslocalTwo baseball players from Hart and one from Saugus were named Valley Invitational Baseball League all stars on Tuesday.

Pat Valaika and Nolan Simmons from Hart and Matt Emerson from Saugus will be on one of the four all stars teams for the summer baseball league.

There will be two all-star games on Saturday at Birmingham High School.

West Ranch, and its four all stars,stayed undefeated in the Valley Invitational Baseball League with a 6-4 win over Crespi on Tuesday.

Matt Blake was 2-for-3 and drove in two runs for West Ranch, a perfect 13-0 in the summer baseball league. He also got the save.

In other games on Monday, Saugus beat Sylmar, 7-1, Valencia knocked off St. Bonaventure, 6-2, Canyon lost to Moorpark, 8-1, Kennedy beat Golden Valley, 5-4, and El Camino Real clobbered Hart, 14-3.

In junior golf, J.J. Holen, who will be a junior at West Ranch in the fall, is two shots off the lead in the American Junior Golf Association West Junior Open at Robinson Ranch. He shot a 70 in the first round of the tournament. Three players are tied for the lead with 68s.

Hart’s Amanda Corr shot an 86 on the girls side of the West Junior Open. Joyce Kim leads the girls with a 72. Play continues today.
