Three Canyons Aquatics Club Swimmers Headed To US Olympics Trials

khts_sportsThree swimmers from the Canyons Aquatics Club are headed to the 2012 U.S. Olympics swim trials in Omaha, Neb.

West Ranch High senior Riley Mita, Hart graduate Konrad Antoniuk and Golden Valley graduate Michelle Duraj qualified for the Olympic trials and a chance to earn a spot on the U.S. swim team for the 2012 Summer Games in London.

Mita and Antoniuk will compete in the 1,500 freestyle. Duraj qualified in the 200 breaststroke.

The Olympic swim trials are scheduled at the Qwest Center from June 25 to July 2, 2012.

The Master’s College women’s soccer team beat Cal State San Marcos, 1-0, and remained undefeated after five games.

It was the third shutout in a row for the 22nd ranked team in the NAIA. The Master’s College women are 4-0-1 after five games and handed No. 12 Cal State San Marcos its first loss of the season. The Master’s College has outscored its opponents, 16-1.

The Master’s College men’s soccer team is still searching for its first win of the season. The 22nd ranked team in the NAIA played to a scoreless tie against Cal State San Marcos and is 0-1-2.

The Master’s College goalkeeper Andrew Bussell faced 15 shots and made two saves through regulation and two overtime periods in the shutout.

The Master’s College men were ranked No. 2 in the NAIA preseason poll, but dropped all the way to 22nd after posting an 0-1-1 record in the first week of the season.

In high school cross country, the Saugus girls team, as expected, are ranked No. 1 in the CIF Southern Section Division 2 preseason rankings. The Saugus girls have won three straight CIF state titles and are ranked No. 3 in the nation by Harrier magazine.

The Saugus boys cross country team is ranked No. 4 in the CIF Southern Section Division 2 preseason poll. The Golden Valley boys team is ranked No. 4 in the Southern Section Division 3 preseason poll.

The Dodgers seem more interested in catching the Diamondbacks in last place than the Padres in first place. The Dodgers lost their fifth game in a row, this time 4-0 to the first-place San Diego Padres. The Dodgers have lost seven of their past eight games and are 11 games out of first place.

Next up for the Dodgers are the Houston Astros. It will be Ted Lilly for the Dodgers against Bud Norris for the Astros. Pregame starts at 4:30 on AM 1220, KHTS.
