Three football teams from the Foothill League entered the quarterfinals of the CIF Southern Section Northern Division playoffs.
Three teams advanced to the semifinals.
Santa Clarita High School Football Playoffs
Valencia, Hart and Saugus all won their quarterfinal playoff games.
Valencia beat Arroyo Grande, 28-23, on the road. Nick Jones scored the go-ahead touchdown in the third quarter. He caught three passes for 119 yards and scored three touchdowns.
The Hart football team eliminated Palos Verdes, the No. 1 seed in the Northern Division playoffs. Hart won the game, 33-12, at College of the Canyons.
Hart running back Connor Wingenroth rushed for 284 yards and nearly broke his own school record for rushing yards in a game. He scored on a 63-yard run in the second quarter.
The Saugus football team, the surprise of the Northern Division playoffs, knocked out Mira Costa, 13-0.
Saugus running back Reid Rupe rushed for 109 yards and scored a touchdown.
Valencia will play Saugus in the semifinals on Friday night.
Hart takes on West Torrance in the other semifinal.
The Trinity football team will play for the CIF Southern Section Division 2 8-man championship after beating Desert Chapel, 50-32, in the semifinals.
The Knights are making their first appearance in the Division 2 8-man championship game. They will play Joshua Springs.
The two teams met in October when Joshua Springs won, 36-34.
College of the Canyons Football
In college football, the College of the Canyons lost to Fullerton College, 56-17, in the National Bowl at Yorba Linda High School.
The game served as the semifinals of the Southern California Regional playoffs. COC ended its season with an 8-3 record.
Santa Clarita High School Sports
In high school tennis, the Hart girls lost, 5-2, to Campbell Hall in the second round of the CIF United States Tennis Association Southern California Regional tournament.
Los Angeles Sports Update
In the NBA, the Lakers beat the visiting Sacramento Kings, 100-86, and have a .500 record.
Pau Gasol scored 20 points and had 10 rebounds. The Lakers are 7-7 after 14 games. Next up for the Lakers are the Washington Wizards on Tuesday night.
In the NHL, the Kings are in Vancouver for a game against the Canucks tonight. The Kings are coming off a 1-0 shutout loss to the Colorado Avalanche on Saturday night.
