Three players from the Santa Clarita Valley were taken on the second day of the Major League Basball draft.

The Dodger selected an outfielder from Loyola Marymount University and pitcher from Pepperdine University on Day 2 of the draft.

Jared Clark, a Valencia High graduate and a senior at Cal State Fullerton, was the first player from the Santa Clarita Valley selected in the draft. The first baseman was taken in the 12th round by the Colorado Rockies.

Matt Valaika, a Hart High graduate and a second baseman at UC Santa Barbara, was taken in the 20th round by the Cincinnati Reds.

Kyle Hooper, a right-handed pitcher for Saugus High School, was selected in the 28th round by the Pittsburgh Pirates. Hooper is committed to playing college baseball at UC Irvine next year.

The draft resumes Thursday with rounds 31 to 50.

The Dodgers selected some Southern California players in the draft. They took Mario Songco, a power-hitting centerfielder from Loyola Marymount University, Brandon Martinez, a right-handed pitcher from Fowler High School, just outside of Fresno, and Nicholas Gaudi, a right-handed pitcher from Pepperdine University.

Other players of note taken by the Dodgers include: Jeremy Wise, a catcher from the University of Oklahoma and Jan Vazquez, another catcher from the Puerto Rico Baseball Academy.
