Tim White From College Of The Canyons Wins US Junior National Championship In Triple Jump

Tim White, a freshman at College of the Canyons and a Hart High graduate, won the triple jump at the US Junior Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Drake University in Iowa.

He won the event with a school record 53 feet, 1 inch jump and became the first track athlete from COC to win a national championship. White broke his personal best jump of 52 feet when he won the Western State Conference championship in April.

By winning the US Junior Outdoor national championship, he is eligible to participate with Team USA at the Pan Am Junior Championships in Colombia in August.

John Gilbertson from The Master’s College finished in 25th place in the 10,000 meters at the US Track and Field Championships meet at Drake University.

He finished the race in 32 minutes, 20.33 seconds. Galen Rupp, running for Nike, won the race in 28 minutes, 47.32 seconds.

In high school basketball, the Santa Clarita Christian boys split a pair of games at the War on the Floor tournament at Pierce College.

Santa Clarita Christian beat Van Nuys, 78-29, but lost to Burroughs from Ridgecrest, 58-50.

The Saugus boys basketball team beat Canoga Park, 52-30, in its only game of the day.

In the NBA Finals, the Miami Heat beat the San Antonio Spurs, 95-88, to win its second championship in a row.

The series went the distance with the Heat winning Games 6 and 7 in Miami. LeBron James was the NBA Finals MVP. He scored 37 points and had 12 rebounds in Game 7.

In baseball, the Dodgers lost to the San Diego Padres, 6-3. Yasiel Puig hit a solo home run, his sixth of the season, but struck out four times.

He was 1-for-5 and his batting average dropped to .452.

The Dodgers and the Padres continue their series tonight. Clayton Kershaw starts for the Dodgers against Clayton Richard for the Padres.
