The NAIA baseball championship begins today at The Master’s College with three games in the Santa Clarita bracket.
The tournament opens with Tabor against Concordia this morning at 9. The winner will play the top-seeded Mustangs at 3 this afternoon.
Cal State San Marcos plays San Diego Christian at noon.
The double-elimination tournament continues through the weekend.
In high school tennis, the Valencia boys won their first-round match in the CIF Southern Section Division 2 playoffs, 14-4, over Rio Mesa.
All three of the Valencia doubles teams won their matches. The No. 1 team of Chris Pope and Cameron Braun won their sets, 6-0, 6-2, 6-0.
The Hart boys tennis team won its first round playoff match, 10-8, over Camarillo. Hart’s No. 1 doubles team of Tommy LaBat and Luke Distad swept their sets, 6-3, 6-1, 6-2.
The Golden Valley boys lost their first-round playoff match, 16-2, against La Canada.
The West Ranch boys were also eliminated from playoffs, losing 17-1 to Rowland Heights.
In the NHL, the Kings beat the St. Louis Blues, 3-2, in overtime of Game 5 of the first round of the Western Conference playoffs.
Slava Voynov scored the game-winner in OT. Jeff Carter scored two goals in regulation.
The Kings have won three games in a row and are up 3-2 in the series.
Game 6 is at Staples Center on Friday.
In baseball, the Dodgers lost to the Arizona Diamondbacks, 3-2. The Dodgers have lost seven games in a row, are still in last place in the National League West and have the day off today.
The Dodgers and the Miami Marlins start a weekend series at Dodger Stadium on Friday.
