Trinity Boys Basketball Team Wins Close One Against Providence Hall

khts_sportsThe Trinity boys basketball team won its sixth game in a row, but it was a little too close for comfort.

Trinity beat Providence Hall of Santa Barbara, 64-59, as James Brooks hit a pair of three throws in the closing seconds to secure the win.

Brooks, playing with a sore ankle, scored a game-high 20 points. Dakota Prochnow chipped in with 17 points.

In golf, Valencia junior Alison Lee won the ANNIKA Invitational in Reunion, Fla., by four strokes over Shannon Aubert from France.

Lee shot a 3-under, 213, in the three-day event.

In high school baseball, Valencia’s Trey Williams has been selected as one of the MaxPreps.com preseason All-Americans. He hit .345 with nine home runs and 20 RBIs in his junior season.

In high school basketball, the Canyon boys will look to win their 12th game in a row tonight against Golden Valley.

Canyon is in first place in the Foothill League standings and coming off a close, 56-52, win over West Ranch.

Golden Valley has a five-game losing streak and is 0-3 against Foothill League teams.

Tipoff is set for 6:30 tonight at Canyon High School.

In other games around the league, Hart is at Valencia. The Indians are tied for second place in league with a 2-1 record. The Vikings are looking to snap a three-game losing streak.

West Ranch is home for a game against Saugus. The Wildcats are tied with Hart for second place in league, but are looking to rebound after losing to Canyon.

On the girls side, the Canyon girls will look to stay on top of the Foothill League standings against Golden Valley. The Grizzlies are coming off their first league win in three years.

The Hart girls travel to play Valencia.

The Saugus girls are on the road and play at West Ranch.

In hockey, the Kings lost to the Calgary Flames, 2-1 in a shootout. Dustin Brown gave the Kings an early, 1-0, lead in the first period, but the Flames tied the score in the second period.

Next up for the Kings are the Colorado Avalanche on Saturday night.
