Trinity Boys Oust Coastal Christian In First Round Of CIF Basketball Playoffs

khts_sportsThe Trinity boys basketball team is off to a good start in the CIF Southern Section basketball playoffs.

The same can’t be said for the Hart and Santa Clarita Christian boys.

Trinity blew out Coastal Christian, 58-29, in the first round of the Division 6 playoffs at The Master’s College.

James and Ryan Brooks combined to score 28 points. James had 15 and 13 rebounds. Ryan finished with 13 points.

The Hart boys lost a close one to Lawndale, 69-67, in the first round of the Division 3AAA playoffs. Four players from Hart scored in double figures. Austin Maly led the Indians with 19 points.

The Santa Clarita Christian boys lost, 35-33, in overtime to Valley Torrah in the Division 5A playoffs. Tikko Moore scored a team-high 13 points for Santa Clarita Christian.

The CIF basketball playoffs resume today with the Valencia and Golden Valley girls in action. Valencia is home against Knight in the first round of the Division 1AA playoffs. Golden Valley is on the road and plays Arroyo Grande in the first round of the Division 3AAA playoffs.

In high school soccer, the West Ranch girls lost to Huntington Beach, 2-1, in the wild-card round of the Division 1 playoffs. Kendall Moskall scored late in the second half for West Ranch for the only goal for the Wildcats.

The CIF soccer playoffs continue today with five teams from the Santa Clarita Valley playing first-round games.

The West Ranch boys are home for a game against Cabrillo from Lompoc in the Division 3 playoffs.

Hart travels to Norte Vista in the first round of the Division 3 playoffs. Saugus is on the road and plays Nipomo.

The Trinity boys play West Shores in the first round of the Division 7 playoffs. The Santa Clarita Christian boys are home against La Sierra Academy in the first round of the Division 7 playoffs.

In college basketball, College of the Canyons women beat Glendale College, 60-50, and have an eight-game winning streak.

Angelica Sahagun scored 21 points to lead COC. Jazzmyn Davis had 16 points and 11 rebounds.

The COC men beat Glendale, 84-74. Rafael Love scored 36 points to lead COC. Wesley Bartole had a double-double with 16 points and 13 rebounds.

In hockey, the Valencia Flyers won a pair of games over the San Diego Gulls, snapped a four-game losing streak, and clinched a playoff spot.

The Flyers won the first game, 3-2. Hunter Jensen, a senior at Valencia High School, scored two goals for the Flyers.

The Flyers won the second game, 2-1. Eddie Keshishian scored both goals.

The Flyers start a three-game series against the Arizona Redhawks at the Ice Station Valencia on Friday night.

In the NHL, the Kings are home for a game against the Phoenix Coyotes tonight. The Kings are coming off a 4-2 win over the Dallas Stars on Sunday, but have lost four of their past six games.
