Trinity Girls Volleyball Team Captures Omega League Title

khts_sportsThe Trinity Classical Academy girls volleyball team needed five games to defeat Hillcrest Christian and win its second Omega League championship in a row.

Trinity won the fifth game, 16-14, behind a match-high nine kills from Julia Howell. Lizzie McAdams added 11 aces for Trinity.

The Knights earned a spot in the CIF Southern Section Division V-A playoffs

The Valencia girls volleyball team capped its Foothill League season with a sweep over Canyon. Sydney Striff had 14 kills to lead Valencia.

The Vikings finished with a 7-3 record in league and in second place behind Saugus. Canyon was 0-10 in the Foothill League.

The Foothill League girls tennis semifinal pairings are set. Top-seeded Rebecca Ho from Golden Valley will face Hart fresman and No. 4 seed Proyfon Lohaphaisan today at the Paseo Club in Valencia.

In the other semifinal match, No. 3 seed Ana Cecilia Fuentes from West Ranch will play Hart’s Jackie Resler, the No. 2 seed.

In football, the Trinity Classical Academy plays Westmark tonight at Valencia High School. Kickoff is set for 7.

The Valencia Flyers ice hockey team swept the Phoenix Knights in three games over the weekend.

The Flyers won the first game, 6-2, after building a 5-0 lead. Eddie Keshishian scored a goal and had two assists.

The Flyers won the second game, 4-3 in overtime. Austin Ehrlich recorded the first hat trick of his junior hockey career.

In the third game, the Flyers won 6-3. Ehrlich, a junior at Saugus High School, leads the team with 11 goals. He is also the leading goal scorer among rookies in the Western States Hockey League.

In the NHL, the Kings are back home for a game against the Edmonton Oilers tonight. The Kings have lost two games in a row and three of their past four.

The Oilers meanwhile are riding a five-game winning streak behind a strong start to the season by former King Ryan Smyth.
