khts_sportsA pair of basketball products from the Santa Clarita Valley are off to great starts in college.

Valencia High graduate Lonnie Jackson was selected as the ACC rookie of the week. The Boston College freshman scored 26 points and had five rebounds in a 75-55 win over Bryant on Sunday. He made seven 3-pointers in the game.

He became the first player from Boston College to drain seven 3-pointers in a game since Tyrese Rice did it in 2008 against North Carolina.

Another Valencia High grad, Lauren Spargo, was selected as the Big West Conference player of the week. The Long Beach State freshman averaged 17 points and 4.5 rebounds in wins over Dartmouth and Western Michigan.

She scored 16 points in Long Beach State’s 66-52 win over Dartmouth. She scored 18 points and made four 3-pointers in a 76-56 win over Western Michigan in the Beach Classic at the Pyramid in Long Beach.

About Connie Jones

Connie and her husband, John, moved to the Santa Clarita Valley almost 30 years ago. Living in Santa Clarita for that long is the direct opposite of Connie’s childhood. She was an Army ‘brat’ who moved every two to three years. Consequently, she has lived in many states and even spent three years in Europe. All three of her kids went to Santa Clarita schools. Connie says the best thing about her job at KHTS is that she is never bored. “If I’m not smiling, Carl is sure to ask why, just before giving me a mind-boggling project.” “KHTS AM-1220 is an integral part of our community and I’m glad to be a part of it. Besides, the DJs will take my request to play Shania Twain’s ‘Still the One’ for my wedding anniversary – gotta love that!”
