Two Valencia Players Have Committed To Play Hockey In College

The Valencia Flyers are pleased to announce two players from the 2014-15 team have committed to college programs.

Flyers captain Eddie Cordero, a 20-year-old Valencia native, has committed to attend and play for Fredonia University and NCAA Division 3 program.

Flyers alternate captain Tyler Lazarek, a 20-year old Saugus native, has committed to attend and play for Oklahoma University and ACHA Division 1 program.

Both players are defenseman and played key roles for the Flyers in their most successful season to date.

“Their leadership, work ethic and competitive spirit were infectious to the entire team and helped motivate every player to compete at his best,” said Scott Allegrini, the Valencia Flyers General Manager, about the two defenseman.

The entire Flyers and WSHL family would like to congratulate and wish both Cordero and Lazarek continued success with this next chapter of their lives.

ABOUT EDDIE CORDERO

Cordero was known for his leadership, his work ethic and his defensive play. He was always the first player to the rink in the morning and always the last one to leave after practice. These qualities allowed him to be one of the Flyers hardest working players all season long and earned him the team’s captaincy.

In his final season of junior hockey, Cordero stepped up for the Flyers in every aspect of the game and allowed the Flyers to have their most successful season ever.

Cordero, six-foot, 205 pounds, played 42 games for the Flyers in his only season in the WSHL, earning a total of 3 goals and 16 assists for a total of 19 points.

Along with chipping in offensively when called upon, Cordero was known for being a shutdown defenseman and being able to play in every situation for the Flyers.

ABOUT TYLER LAZAREK

Lazarek he was known for his leadership, his work ethic, and his passion for the game of hockey. He always came to the rink with a smile and got the most out of every workout and practice. These qualities allowed him to be one of the Flyers most consistent players all season long.

In his final season of junior hockey, Lazarek stepped up for the Flyers in every aspect of the game and was a key component to the Flyers most successful season ever. These qualities also led to Tyler being an alternate captain for the Flyers.

Lazarek, six-foot-three inches, 215 pounds, played 152 games in his WSHL career over four season, earning a total of 11 goals and 54 assists for a total of 65 points.

Along with chipping in offensively, Lazarek was known for being a shutdown defenseman and being able to play in every situation for the Flyers.

The Saugus native was also known for ability to stand up for his teammates when need as he racked up 251 penalty minutes in his career.
