The Valencia baseball team needed extra innings, but beat Hart, 9-8, to stay undefeated in Foothill League play.
Shane Zeile hit a solo home run in the bottom of the ninth inning to give Valencia its third win in league. Hart had a one-run lead, 8-7, in the seventh inning. Valencia tied the game in the bottom of the seventh and won the game in the ninth.
Zeile was 3-for-4 with three RBIs and two doubles.
The Golden Valley baseball team won its second game in a row, 5-4, over West Ranch. Ryan Alvarez knocked in two runs for Golden Valley with a bases-loaded double in the fifth inning.
West Ranch scored three runs in the sixth inning capped by a two-run double by Aaron Watkins.
The Canyon baseball team won its first Foothill League game, 4-3, over Saugus. Harry Bennett drove in the winning run with a single in the seventh inning.
Saugus was up 3-2 in the sixth when Canyon tied the game in the bottom half of the inning. Chris Devery gave Saugus its one-run lead with a two-out RBI single in the fourth inning.
The Master’s College baseball team beat Westmont, 3-1, and won its second game in a row. Chris Talley drove in two runs and Tanner Leighton was 2-for-3 with a double and scored a run for The Master’s College.
The West Ranch softball team beat Alemany, 5-1, behind a three-RBI day from Janelle Lindvall. She was 2-for-3 with a double and a triple.
West Ranch plays Saugus in the championship game of the High Desert Classic today at Central Park.
The Hart softball team beat Chaminade, 4-2, in extra innings. Juli Strange hit a two-run home run in the top of the ninth inning. She was 2-for-4 with three RBIs.
Hart starter Emili Escamilia struck out nine and gave up two runs on five hits.
The Canyon softball team is in action today against Culver City. The Trinity Classical Academy softball team plays on the road against Los Angeles Lutheran.
The Valencia boys swim team beat West Ranch, 91-79, in a Foothill League meet at the Santa Clarita Aquatics Center. The Valencia girls beat West Ranch, 117-52, at the same meet.
The Lakers are at Staples Center for a crucial game with playoff implications against the Dallas Mavericks tonight. The Lakers are trying to chase down the banged-up San Antonio Spurs for the best record and the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference playoffs.
The Mavericks are chasing the Lakers for the second best record in the conference.
Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30.
The Dodgers beat the Seattle Mariners, 8-1, in their last game of spring training. Corey Smith hit a three-run home run and Marcus Thames hit a solo homer for the Dodgers.
Clayton Kershaw gets the opening day start for the Dodgers against Tim Lincecum from the Giants.
