Valencia Baseball Team Beats Saugus, Takes Lead In League Standings

khts_sportsThe Valencia baseball team has a little breathing room in the Foothill League standings. Valencia beat Saugus, 14-4, and Hart lost to West Ranch, 4-3, to break a first-place tie atop the league standings.

Trey Williams hit a home run and had two doubles for Valencia against Saugus. AJ Balta also hit a home run for Valencia.

West Ranch starter Ryan Keller outdueled Hart’s Tyler Glasnow. Keller struck out eight Hart batters for the win. Glasnow struck out 12 in the loss. West Ranch’s Matt Blake was 3-for-3 and drove in two runs.

Valencia has a one-game lead over Hart with three games left in league play.

The Golden Valley baseball team beat Canyon, 9-7. Billy Fredrick and Anthony San Miguel each hit two-run home runs in the fourth inning to build an 8-0 lead. Fredrick was 2-for-3, drove in three runs and scored twice.

The Saugus softball team is home for a game against Canyon and can pad its lead in the Foothill League standings. Saugus is all alone in first place with a 5-2 record. Hart, West Ranch and Valencia are tied for second place with 4-3 records.

Hart, which lost to Saugus on Tuesday night, plays at Valencia. The Vikings are coming off a win over West Ranch.

West Ranch is home for a game against Golden Valley.

The Trinity Classical Academy softball team is home and plays LA Lutheran. The Santa Clarita Christian softball team plays Hillcrest Christian at home.

The Valencia boys volleyball team will look to cap another undefeated season on the road against Saugus. Valencia is 11-0 and has won a state record 101 Foothill Leage matches in a row.

The West Ranch boys volleyball team is at Canyon. Hart travels to Golden Valley.

It Foothill League finals time in a couple of sports. The league tennis finals are at the Paseo Club. The league swimming finals are at the Santa Clarita Aquatics Center.

In high school baseball, Santa Clarita Christian hosts Hillcrest Christian. Trinity travels to Newbury Park Adventist.

In the NHL playoffs, the San Jose Sharks beat the Detroit Red Wings, 4-3 in overtime, and lead the Western Conference semifinals, three games to none.

The Tampa Bay Lightning beat the Washington Capitals, 5-3, to complete the sweep and advance to the Eastern Conference finals.

The Boston Bruins beat the Philadelphia Flyers, 5-1, and lead their Eastern Conference semifinals series three games to none.

In the NBA playoffs, the Lakers lost again to the Dallas Mavericks, only this time it wasn’t even close. The Lakers lost 93-81 and are down two games to none.

Kobe Bryant scored 23 points in the loss. Only three teams have come back to win a best-of-seven series after losing the first two games at home. Let’s see if the Lakers can be the fourth.

Game 3 is in Dallas on Friday night.

In the Eastern Conference semifinals, the Chicago Bulls beat the Atlanta Hawks, 86-73, to even the series at a game apiece.
