Valencia Baseball Team Rallies In Seventh Inning Against West Ranch

IMG_2155The Valencia baseball team scored two runs in the seventh inning and completed a come-from-behind, 5-3, win over West Ranch.

Brian Mundell knocked in both runs in the top of the seventh inning with a double off the right field wall.

West Ranch had a 3-1 lead in the third inning, but Valencia scored four unanswered runs to win the game.

Chris Gimenez earned the win in relief, tossing 5 2/3 shutout innings.

The Hart baseball team blanked Canyon, 2-0, behind a strong outing from starter Jesse Posey. He tossed 6 2/3 scoreless innings and gave up only five hits for Hart, the first-place team in the Foothill League standings.

The Saugus baseball team beat Golden Valley, 8-1, behind a complete-game from starter Justin Donatella. He struck out a season-high eight batters for Saugus.

Saugus, Valencia and West Ranch are tied for second place in the Foothill League with 5-3 records.

The Trinity baseball team lost to Concordia, 4-3, in extra innings. Eli Skorich gave Trinity a 3-2 lead with an RBI in the sixth inning. But Concorida tied the score and won the game in the eighth inning.

In high school golf, Valencia won the Foothill League match at Robinson Ranch by three strokes over West Ranch.

Jonathan Chang from Valencia shot the low round of the day, a 3-under 69, with a hole in one and an eagle. He aced the fourth hole, a 137-yard, par-3. He eagled the short, 237-yard, par 4, eighth hole.

In high school swimming, the Hart boys and girls teams swept Saugus in a Foothill League dual meet at the Santa Clarita Aquatics Center.

The Hart girls won, 100-70, and the Hart boys won, 125-45.

In soccer, the Santa Clarita Storm men’s team beat the Monsoons, 9-1, in a National Premier Soccer League game.

The Storm are back in action on Saturday against the Fullerton Rangers at Valencia High School. Kick-off is at 6.

In hockey, the Kings couldn’t close the deal in Game 4 of the first round of the NHL Western Conference playoffs.

The Kings lost to the Canucks, 3-1. Anze Kopitar gave the Kings a 1-0 lead in the first period, but the Canucks scored twice in the second period to take the lead.

Game 5 is Sunday night in Vancouver.
