Valencia Baseball Team Ranked No. 4 In Southern Section Division 1 Poll

The Valencia baseball team moved up to No. 4 in the CIF Southern Section Division 1 rankings. The West Ranch baseball team fell out of the Division 1 top 10.

The Vikings gained four spots and are off to a 2-0 start in Foothill League play with wins over Golden Valley and West Ranch.

The West Ranch baseball team, the reigning Foothill League champion and the No. 7 team in Division 1 last week, is 0-2 after its first two league games.

The Trinity Classical Academy softball team is No. 8 in the Southern Section Division 7 poll.

In high school tennis, the Valencia boys beat Oaks Christian, 11-7.

In high school track and field, Hart’s Bailey James won the mile race in 4 minutes, 25.49 seconds at the second annual Maurice Greene invitational at Oaks Christian.

Golden Valley’s Azaria Hill was second in the girls 100 meters in 12.06 seconds at the Redondo Nike Invitational. Crystal Orellana, her teammate, was fifth in the long jump at 15 feet, 9 ¾ inches.

Samantha Ortega from Saugus was fourth in the 1,600 in 5 minutes, 8.75 seconds. Rachel Eaton, also from Saugus, was fourth in the high jump at 5 feet, 10 inches.

The Golden Valley boys 4×400 relay team was eighth in 3 minutes, 28.29 seconds.

In high school swimming, the Hart boys were sixth at the Southern Section Relays at Capistrano Valley High School.

The Hart 4×100 medley relay team was sixth in 3 minutes, 45.69 seconds, seventh in the 4×50 backstroke relay and seventh in the 4×50 butterfly relay.

The West Ranch boys were eighth in the 200 medley relay and 10th in the 4×50 breaststroke relay.

In spring training, the Dodgers lost to the Arizona Diamondbacks, 5-3. Carl Crawford had two hits and drove in two runs in his second Cactus League game for the Dodgers.

In the NBA, the Lakers, playing without Kobe Bryant for the second straight game, lost to the Phoenix Suns, 99-76. The Lakers were outscored 28-10 in the fourth quarter by the Suns.

In the NHL, the Kings shut out the visiting Phoenix Coyotes, 4-0. Tyler Toffoli scored the first goal of his NHL career and added an assist on Jeff Carter’s goal in the third period.

The Kings and Coyotes are back at it again tonight. Listen to the game on AM 1220, KHTS. The puck drops at 7:30.
