Valencia Baseball Team Shuts Out West Ranch; Four Teams Tied For First Place

The Valencia baseball team shut out West Ranch, 6-0, and forced a four-way tie for first place in the Foothill League.

Vikings starter JD Busfield tossed a four-hitter and struck out seven.

Chad Bible and Anthony Lepre hit back-to-back solo home runs in the fifth inning. Bible also hit a two-run single in the third inning and drove in three runs in the game.

The Saugus baseball team beat Golden Valley, 13-6. The Centurions built a 13-0 lead in the first two innings. Roy Verdejo hit a three-run home run in the second inning for Saugus.

The Canyon baseball team beat Hart, 6-5 in extra innings. The Cowboys scored four runs in the seventh inning to tie the score and pushed across the winning run in the eighth.

Canyon, Saugus, West Ranch and Valencia are all tied for first place in the Foothill League with 5-3 records.

In high school swimming, the Hart boys and girls teams swept Valencia in a Foothill League meet at the Santa Clarita Aquatic Center.

The Hart boys won, 103-67. The Hart girls won all 11 events at the meet and won 122-48.

In college baseball, The Master’s College will host the opening round of the NAIA national championship baseball playoffs.

By hosting the first round of the NAIA tournament, The Master’s College earns an automatic berth in the playoffs.

The tournament begins May 9. The last time The Master’s College baseball team was in the NAIA tournament was in 2009. The Mustangs won one game before being eliminated.

In 2000, The Master’s College baseball team finished third in the NAIA World Series after losing to Dallas Baptist, 6-4.

In the NBA, the Lakers beat the visiting Houston Rockets, 99-95 in overtime, and will be the seventh seed in the Western Conference playoffs.

Pau Gasol recorded a triple-double with 17 points, 20 rebounds and 11 assists. The Lakers will face the San Antonio Spurs in the first round of the NBA playoffs.

The Clippers beat the Sacramento Kings, 112-108, in the regular season finale for both teams. The Clippers will open the NBA playoffs as the fourth seed in the Western Conference and play the Memphis Grizzlies in the first round.

In baseball, the Dodgers lost to the San Diego Padres, 7-2, and were swept in a three-game series at Dodger Stadium. The Dodgers have lost four games in a row and are headed to Baltimore to start a weekend series against the Orioles on Friday.

In the NHL, the Kings are home for a game against the Columbus Blue Jackets tonight at Staples Center. The Kings are coming off a 3-2 shootout loss to the San Jose Sharks on Tuesday night.
