Valencia Baseball Team Slams Past Westlake In CIF Playoffs

The Valencia baseball team beat Westlake, 11-2, in the wild-card round of the CIF Southern Section Division 1 playoffs.

AJ Balta hit a grand slam in the fourth inning to give the Vikings a 9-2 lead. He was 2-for-3 with four RBIs.

Valencia plays Harvard-Westlake, the No. 3 seeded team in the Division 1 playoffs, on Thursday.

The Albert Einstein Academy baseball team lost to Faith Baptist, 12-0, in the wild-card round of the Southern Section Division 7 playoffs.

In high school softball, Valencia lost to visiting Santa Margarita, 8-4 in extra innings, in the wild-card round of the CIF Southern Section Division 1 playoffs.

Valencia scored three runs in the sixth inning to tie the score, 4-4. But Santa Margarita scored four runs in the ninth inning to win the game.

The Trinity Classical Academy softball team lost, 9-5, to Crossroads in the wild-card round of the Southern Section Division 7 playoffs.

The Santa Clarita Christian softball team was shutout, 2-0, by Hesperia Christian in the wild-card round of the Southern Section Division 7 playoffs.

In college baseball, The Master’s College will play Northwood from Texas in the first round of the NAIA World Series in Lewiston, Idaho on May 24.

The Mustangs are the No. 4 seed in the NAIA World Series. Northwood is the No. 5 seed.

In high school ice hockey, Valencia beat Burbank, 4-3, in the quarterfinals of the Ice Station Valencia league playoffs. Tristen Chan scored two goals.

The Hart ice hockey team beat Saugus, 2-1.

Antelope Valley beat Canyon, 10-3. Bakersfield beat West Valley, 5-4.

In the Stanley Cup playoffs, the Kings shut out the San Jose Sharks, 2-0, in Game 1 of the NHL Western Conference semifinals.

Jonathan Quick made 35 saves in goal for his sixth career playoff shutout.

Game 2 is Thursday at Staples Center.

In baseball, the Dodgers shut out the visiting Washington Nationals, 2-0. Clayton Kershaw struck out 11 and held the Nationals scoreless for 8 2/3 innings to win his fourth game of the season.

The Dodgers and the Nationals play the rubber game of their series tonight at Dodger Stadium. Zack Greinke is coming off the disabled list and will make his first start since breaking his collarbone nearly five weeks ago. He will go against Ross Detwiler of the Nationals.
