Valencia Boys Basketball Team Opens With Win In Simi Valley Tip-Off

khts_sportsThe Valencia boys basketball team worked a little overtime in the Simi Valley Tip-Off against Chatsworth. Zach Davis scored a career-high 32 points and led four Vikings in double figures in a 91-86 overtime win over Chatsworth in the opening round of the Simi Valley tournament.

Davis also had 10 rebounds and Troy Hammel had 17 points.

The Canyon boys basketball team won its first game in the Burbank Tournament in convincing fashion. The Cowboys jumped out to a 24-0 first-quarter lead and beat Roosevelt, 65-34.

Clay Kasdorf led Canyon with 26 points.

The Hart boys basketball team beat Littlerock, 92-77. Hart’s Austin Maly scored  a game-high 29 points, making nine 3-pointers.

Valencia’s Kalia Summerlin started her basketball season on a high note. She tied a school record with 34 points in Valencia’s 73-68 win over Dos Pueblos in the Vikings season opener.

She scored 32 points in the final three quarters and helped Valencia erase a 20-4 first-quarter deficit. Summerlin scored 15 points in the second quarter and made three 3-pointers.

She tied the school record set by Kelley Tarver in 2003.

The West Ranch girls basketball team beat Grant, 65-24, in the Crescenta Valley Tournament. Whitney Arima had 14 points, 11 rebounds and six assists.

The Hart girls basketball team lost its season opener, 76-25, to Chaminade.

The Canyon boys soccer team shut out Quartz Hill in its season opener, 4-0. Jorge Navarro had a goal and an assist for Canyon.

The Santa Clarita Christian boys soccer team beat Mojave, 4-1, behind a hat trick from Daniel Stratton. Chad Latch had two assists in the win.

The Santa Clarita Christian girls soccer team knocked off Frazier Mountain, 3-2. Lauren Gallagher, Colette Blake and Tiffany Shroyer scored goals for Santa Clarita Christian.

The Hart girls soccer team played to a scoreless tie against Thousand Oaks. Ashleigh Tippet made five saves in goal to record the shutout for Hart.

In ice hockey, the Valencia Flyers won a pair of games against the Long Beach Bombers over the weekend.

The Flyers won the first game, 3-0, behind a goal and an assist from Eddie Keshishian. Valencia High grad Stephen Palmer made 32 saves in goal for the shutout.

The Flyers won the second game, 5-4. Austin Ehrlich scored the game-winner in the third period.
