Valencia Boys Basketball Team Reaches Semifinals Of Bash In Burbank Tournament

The Valencia boys basketball team reached the semifinals of the Bash in Burbank tournament and lost to Alemany, 62-49.

Valencia closed the gap to four points, 47-43, in the second half, but that was as close as the Vikings would get.

Valencia rallied to knock off Viewpoint, 53-51, in the quarterfinals. The Vikings trailed 33-15 in the first half before clamping down on defense in the second half.

The Saugus boys basketball team lost its first game, 43-38, to Loyola in the Bash in Burbank tournament.

Saugus rebounded with a 44-41 win over an undermanned Campbell Hall team in its second game.

In the Summer Varsity Tournament at Hart High, the host Indians beat Verdugo Hills, 73-43, on the first day. Lewis Stallworth led Hart with 25 points on 8-of-9 shooting from the field.

The Trinity Classical Academy boys basketball team lost to Crescenta Valley, 50-36, on the first day of the Summer Varsity Tournament. Trinity reached the championship game of the CIF Southern Section Division VI playoffs last season.

Crescenta Valley plays in Southern Section Division 1A.

In baseball, the Dodgers beat the San Francisco Giants, 4-1, scoring three runs in the top of the ninth inning to break a 1-1 tie.

AJ Ellis drove in all three runs in the ninth inning with a bases-loaded double.

The Dodgers took two of three games against the Giants and have won 12 of their past 15 games.

Yasiel Puig went 2-for-4 and raised his batting average to .409. Hanley Ramirez went 2-for-4 and raised his batting average to .410.

The Dodgers also made a trade over the weekend to bolster their starting rotation. Ricky Nolasco was traded from the Miami Marlins to the Dodgers for three prospects.

Nolasco is 5-8 with a 3.85 ERA in 18 starts for the Marlins.

The Dodgers will look to chase down the National League West leading Arizona Diamondbacks tonight. The Dodgers are in second place in the National League West standings and trail the Diamondbacks by 4 ½  games.
