Valencia Boys Basketball Team Wins Chaminade Tournament

sportslocalThe Valencia boys basketball team won the championship game of the Chaminade tournament in a rout, 74-48, over Granada Hills.

Valencia’s Lonnie Jackson scored 25 points against Granada Hills, was the leading scorer in the tournament and earned most valuable player honors. He also had six rebounds and seven assists in the championship game.

 

Valencia teammate Jake Keller scored 12 points against Granada Hills.

The Saugus boys basketball team pulled out a one-point win over Glendae, 48-47, in the Hart Holiday Classic. Brad Buchignani scored 20 points and had three steals and Sean Picard scored 11 points, had five rebounds and five blocks for Saugus.

Righetti won the Hart Holiday Classic, downing Palmdale, 53-51, in the championship game. Larry McMorris scored the game-winning shot at the buzzer. Quentin Sims scored a team-high 14 points to lead Righetti and teammate Nick Sauer was the tournament most valuable player.

In high school soccer, the Canyon girls team won the Hart tournament with a 1-0 shutout against Hart in the championship game.

Marina Gonzalez scored the lone goal of the game in the 60th minute and goalkeeper Kristin Gunhold made seven saves for Canyon.

The Saugus boys soccer team won the championship game of the Hart tournament, 3-2, over Knight.

Manny Padron scored the game-winning goal in the final minute. Chris Trejo and James Bunch notched a goal apiece and Amir Ranjbar had two assists for Saugus.
