Valencia Boys Soccer Team Opens CIF Playoffs Against Dominguez Today

khts_sportsThe Valencia boys soccer team better be ready to kick it into high gear.

Valencia is in the CIF Southern Section Division 3 soccer playoffs and plays Dominguez today in the wild-card round. The Vikings earned an at-large bid after finishing in a tie for third place in the Foothill League standings.

Valencia is one of four teams from the Foothill League in the Division 3 boys soccer playoffs.

West Ranch, the newly crowned champion of the Foothill League, opens at home against Cabrillo from Lompoc, the third-place team from the Los Padres League, on Wednesday.

The Hart boys are on the road and play Norte Vista, the second-place team from the Sunkist League.

The Saugus boys travel to play Nipomo, the champion of the Los Padres League.

Warren, the San Gabriel Valley League champion, is the No. 1 seed in the Division 3 playoffs.

The Santa Clarita Christian boys open the Division 7 playoffs at home against La Sierra Academy, the second-place team from the Arrowhead League.

On the girls side, Saugus, the Foothill League champion, opens at home against Tesoro, the third-place team from the Sea View League, in the Southern Section Division 1 playoffs on Friday.

If Saugus can get past Tesoro, second-seeded San Clemente awaits the Centurions in the second round.

The Hart girls are home in the first round and play Chaminade, the third-place team from the Mission League.

The Valencia girls are on the road and play Redlands in the first round.

West Ranch earned an at-large berth in the Division 1 playoffs and plays Huntington Beach in the wild-card round on Wednesday.

The Santa Clarita Christian girls soccer team is in the Division 7 playoffs and play Vistamar, the Coastal League champion, in the first round.

In auto racing, Irwindale Speedway, where a number of drivers from Santa Clarita won NASCAR Late Model and short track championships, canceled its racing season for 2012.

Canyon Country’s RJ Johnson won the Super Late Model championship and Valencia’s Connor Cantrell won the Super Trucks title at the track in 2011.

About Connie Jones

Connie and her husband, John, moved to the Santa Clarita Valley almost 30 years ago. Living in Santa Clarita for that long is the direct opposite of Connie’s childhood. She was an Army ‘brat’ who moved every two to three years. Consequently, she has lived in many states and even spent three years in Europe. All three of her kids went to Santa Clarita schools. Connie says the best thing about her job at KHTS is that she is never bored. “If I’m not smiling, Carl is sure to ask why, just before giving me a mind-boggling project.” “KHTS AM-1220 is an integral part of our community and I’m glad to be a part of it. Besides, the DJs will take my request to play Shania Twain’s ‘Still the One’ for my wedding anniversary – gotta love that!”
