Valencia Boys Soccer Team Wins Foothill League Title

The Valencia boys soccer team shut out West Ranch, 1-0, to capture its first Foothill League championship in school history.

Jesus Fernandez scored in the 55th minute off a pass from Zach Klindworth. Valencia completed an unbeaten Foothill League season at 7-0-3.

West Ranch came into the game as the leader in the Foothill League. The Vikings were a point behind the Wildcats.

West Ranch finishes in second place with a 7-2-1 record in league. Both losses were to Valencia.

The Hart boys soccer team beat Canyon, 4-1, and finished in third place in the Foothill League.

Anthony Caso scored two goals for Hart.

The Golden Valley boys beat Saugus, 2-1. Sebastian Martinez scored both goals for Golden Valley, which won its second league game of the season.

The Hart girls soccer team shut out Canyon, 2-0. McKinley Kane scored twice for Hart.

The Saugus girls shut out Golden Valley, 1-0. Erica Grove scored the lone goal of the game off a throw-in from Monica Allen.

The Valencia girls, who wrapped up the Foothill League championship on Tuesday, shut out West Ranch, 1-0.

Taylor Venegas scored for the Vikings, which ended the league season with an 8-0-2 record.

In college basketball, The Master’s College women beat New Hope Christian, 83-49. Jacquelyn Marshall scored 19 points and led four Lady Mustangs in double figures.

The Master’s College women improved to 22-2 and are ranked No. 10 in the NAIA.

In the NBA, the Lakers lost to the Boston Celtics, 116-95. The Lakers were playing without Pau Gasol, who is expected to miss the next six to eight weeks with a foot injury. The Celtics handed the Lakers their worst loss of the season.

Dwight Howard made his first start in three games and scored nine points in 28 minutes. He did lead the team in rebounding with nine.

In the NHL, the Kings lost to the Nashville Predators, 3-0. The Predators scored two goals in the second period. The Kings dropped to 3-4-2.

The Kings will be in Detroit for a game against the Red Wings on Sunday morning.
