Valencia Boys Volleyball Wraps Up 9th Championship

The Canyon softball team pulled off another surprise win on Thursday, this time against first-place Valencia.

Canyon rallied in the seventh inning and scored two gift runs in a 5-3 win at Valencia High School. Two Canyon batters were hit by pitches with the bases loaded. Brittany Williams scored the go-ahead run and Courtney Ziese, who had the only hit in the inning, added an insurance run.

Saugus scored five runs in the fifth inning en route to a 9-1 win over Golden Valley. Jenna Kelly was 4-for-4 and drove in two runs for Saugus.

Hart took over sole possession of first place in the Foothill League with a 4-3 win over West Ranch. Destiny Rodino drove in the winning run for Hart in the 12th inning. She also earned the victory in the circle, pitching all 12 innings.

Santa Clarita Christian pitcher Carly Asher racked up nine strikeouts, but her team lost to Viewpoint, 4-1. Christine Kash was 1-for-3 and drove in the lone run for Santa Clarita Christian.

In high school baseball, West Ranch, the first place team in the Foothill League, is at Canyon, Golden Valley is at Valencia and Saugus is at Hart. All games start at 3:15.

In high school volleyball, the Valencia boys wrapped up the Foothill League championship, its ninth in a row, and extended its league match winning streak to 80. Valencia beat Canyon in four games. Hart swept West Ranch in three games, Saugus beat Golden Valley in five.

In college baseball, David Kaczor drove in three runs in the College of the Canyons’ 7-4 win over L.A. Pierce College.

In high school track and field, the West Ranch boys team beat Golden Valley, 72-64. Matt Harmon and Ross Bacon were double winners for West Ranch. Harmon won the 110 hurdles and the 300 hurdles. Bacon won the 1,600 and 3,200.

The West Ranch girls beat Golden Valley, 85-51. Lauren Hackney and Kristine Tan were double winners for Golden Valley. Hackney won the 200 and 400. Tan won the long jump and high jump.

The Canyon boys won their meet against Valencia, 99-37. Harrison Hall won the triple jump and the long jump for Canyon.

The Canyon girls were 73-63 winners over Valencia. Tiffini Stone, in the triple jump and long jump, and Courtney Saunders in the discus and shot put, were double winners for Canyon.
