Four years into the program’s history, Valencia Wrestling has a CIF championship.

Valencia High School has the only wrestling team in the Santa Clarita Valley. As such, Vikings Wrestling has represented SCV well, winning three Tri-Valley League championships, with a potential fourth coming up on Wednesday.

Saturday, the No. 2 Valencia (9-1) boys wrestling team cemented its status as one of the top teams in the state this season with a Southern Division Dual Team championship. The Vikings won four consecutive matches to claim the title.

Wednesday, both the boys and girls teams compete for another Tri-Valley League championship against Fillmore, Nordhoff and Santa Paula. The first match begins at 5:00.

The Master’s University Basketball

Men’s Basketball: It’s been 94 days since the Mustangs (23-1, 9-0) lost a game. A streak that spans 22 games, five NAIA top-25 wins, and 14 games scoring 90+ points.

Saturday, they won their sixth road game of the season, 95-84, at Menlo College.

Four players scored in double figures for the No. 2 ranked NAIA team in the country, including future lock for an NAIA All-American selection Lawrence Russell. Russell scored 24 points and a huge game on the glass with 18 rebounds.

This week TMU is home for its final home games of the regular season against San Diego Christian (Thursday) and Arizona Christian (Saturday).

Women’s Basketball: The Master’s women’s team continues to jockey for position in the Golden State Athletic Conference, now at 5-4 after a huge win Saturday over No. 16 Menlo (55-50).

Brooke Bailey and Anika Neuman each scored sixteen points in the win at Menlo, and while it wasn’t pretty (Master’s shot under 32% from the field), the Mustangs clamped down defensively and forced 18 turnovers.

They’ve now knocked off two top-25 teams in the last four games and are one game behind Menlo and Arizona Christian for second place in the conference.

A home game against No. 23 Arizona Christian looms large on Saturday.
