All three football teams from the Foothill League advanced in the CIF Southern Section Northern Division playoffs.
Valencia, the Foothill League champion and the No. 2 seed in the Northern Division, played the closest game. The Vikings beat Paso Robles, 46-36, erasing a nine-point, first-half deficit.
Visiting Paso Robles had a 16-7 lead before Valencia rallied in the second half. Jay Jay Wilson and James Berkley scored touchdowns in the third quarter to take the lead.
The Canyon football team had little trouble with visiting San Luis Obispo. The Cowboys won, 42-9, on a record-breaking night by Drew Wolitarsky.
He caught nine passes for 128 yards and two touchdowns. He broke the state record for career receptions held by Steve Smith. Wolitarsky has 277 catches over his four-year career at Canyon. The previous record was 271 catches.
The Hart football team had the toughest first-round game, on the road against Arroyo Grande. But the long bus ride had little effect on the Indians in a 48-6 blowout.
Hart quarterback Brady White threw three touchdown passes and was 19-of-30 for 351 yards in a little more than three quarters.
The Trinity football team advanced to the semifinals of the Southern Section Division II 8-man playoffs with a 58-18 win over Cornerstone Christian.
Dakota Prochnow threw three touchdown passes at quarterback and returned an interception for a touchdown on defense.
In college football, College of the Canyons beat Allan Hancock College, 47-36, and earned a bowl bid. The Cougars will play Santa Ana College in the Southern California Bowl on Saturday.
In high school volleyball, the Santa Clarita Christian girls lost to Coastal Christian in four games and were eliminated from the Southern Section Division VAA playoffs.
In the NBA, the Lakers beat the Sacramento Kings, 103-90, and won their second game in a row after firing coach Mike Brown.
The Lakers hired Mike D’Antoni as their new coach, according to several media outlets. D’Antoni previously coached the New York Knicks and Phoenix Suns.
