VALENCIA – Steven Manfro scored five touchdowns for Valencia in a 56-7 rout over Hart at College of the Canyons on Friday night.
Manfro rushed for four touchdowns and caught a 41-yard touchdown pass from Alex Bishop. Manfro had 81 rushing yards on 11 carries. He also caught three passes for 54 yards.
Bishop had a big night for Valencia as well. He threw for 231 yards and three touchdowns. He also rushed for 72 yards on 13 carries and had a 54-yard touchdown run in a wild first half.
Valencia (8-0, 3-0) scored on its first three possessions in the first quarter and Manfro had two of the first three touchdowns. The first was a 41-yard catch that put Valencia up 14-0 with 7:49 to play in the first quarter. He scored less than two minutes later on a 19-yard run.
Manfro scored again in the second quarter, this time on a 17-yard run with just over three minutes to play in the half.
Bishop made it 35-0 with his 54-yard touchdown run just before halftime.
Hart (5-3, 2-1), on the other hand, sputtered on offense for most of the game. Quarterback C.J. Reyes missed his first six pass attempts and threw three interceptions. The team mustered only 14 yards rushing and running back Jake Stephens led the team with 24 yards on 12 carries.
The only bright spot for the offense came in the third quarter. Reyes hit Da’Jon Hairston for a 52-yard touchdown pass for Hart’s only score of the game.
Hairston finished with three catches for 70 yards. Reyes threw for 170 yards, but was only 13-for-34 passing and was sacked seven times.
Valencia’s Zach Tartabull, Brock Vereen and Wyatt Hixon each had an interception for Valencia. Vereen returned his interception to the Hart 1-yard line to set up Manfro’s fifth touchdown of the game.
Hixon, who is listed on the team’s roster as a kicker and punter, was playing safety and picked off Reyes on the 1-yard line. Hixon returned the interception 53 yards.
Manfro scored five touchdowns for the second game in a row. He scored five touchdowns in his team’s win over Golden Valley last week.
Vereen had six catches for 53 yards and Max Rodriguez led Valencia with 66 receiving yards on three catches.
Bishop finished the game 17-for-22 passing for 231 yards and three touchdowns. He opened the game completing his first six passes. At one point, he completed 11 of 12 passes for 122 yards in the first half. His 54-yard touchdown run was also the longest play from scrimmage in the game for Valencia.
