Valencia Girls Basketball Team Beats Golden Valley, Undefeated In Foothill League

The Valencia girls basketball team cruised to a 68-39 win over Golden Valley to remain undefeated in the Foothill League.

The Vikings were up by 16 points at halftime and outscored the Grizzlies, 24-11, in the fourth quarter.

Freshman Sabrina Thompson scored 12 points, making four 3-pointers, to lead the Valencia girls. The Vikings are 7-0 and in first place in the Foothill League.

The Canyon girls beat West Ranch, 56-42.

The Saugus girls topped Hart, 51-43.

On the boys side, West Ranch beat Canyon, 67-59, and improved to 6-1 in the Foothill League.

The Hart boys beat Saugus, 60-50, and are tied with West Ranch for first place in the Foothill League standings with a 6-1 record.

Valencia narrowly escaped with a 67-64 win over Golden Valley.

In high school soccer, the Valencia boys shut out Golden Valley, 1-0. The Vikings are unbeaten in Foothill League play at 5-0-2. Marc Silingardi scored for Valencia.

The West Ranch boys beat Canyon, 2-1. Brendan Moskal scored both goals for the Wildcats.

The Saugus boys shut out Hart, 1-0. TJ Huntington scored in the first half for the Centurions.

The Canyon and West Ranch girls played to a 1-1 draw. Mari Kneisel scored for Canyon.

Saugus shut out Hart, 1-0. Avery Schulhofer scored the lone goal of the game.

The Santa Clarita Christian girls lost to Buckley, 7-1.

In high school football, Canyon’s Drew Wolitarsky and Valencia’s Sean Murphy were selected to the CalHiSports all-state team. Wolitarsky is on the all-state second team on offense. Murphy earned a spot on the all-state offense third team.

In college basketball, The Master’s College women lost to Vanguard, 69-65, in a matchup of two teams in the top 10 in the NAIA.

The Lady Mustangs, ranked No. 9 in the NAIA, lost for the second time in the past three games. They are 19-2 on the season.

Vanguard, the No. 4 team in the NAIA, led by seven points at halftime and improved to 15-1.

The Master’s College men lost to Vanguard, 81-70. The Mustangs dropped to 13-9.

In the NBA, the Lakers beat the visiting New Orleans Hornets, 111-106, and won their third game in a row.

Kobe Bryant scored 14 points and had 11 assists. Earl Clark added 20 points and had 12 rebounds.

The Lakers are five games under .500 at 20-25.
