Valencia Girls Volleyball Team Beats Hart In Five

khts_sportsThe Valencia girls volleyball team bounced back after losing its first Foothill League match of the season.

Valencia beat Hart in five games a night after losing to West Ranch in five games.

Valencia won the first two games of the match, but Hart rallied to win the next two. In the fifth game, Valencia won, 15-11.

Serena LeDuff had a match-high 20 kills for Valencia. Teammate Emily Elias had 18 kills and setter Carly Carapella had 55 assists.

Hart’s Anissa Robinson had 11 kills and 10 blocks. Anne Baker, Brittani Elser and Amy King each had nine kills for Hart.

The Valencia girls volleyball team is headed to Phoenix, Ariz., today for the Nike Tournament.

The Saugus girls are on the road for a Foothill League match against West Ranch in a battle of 4-1 teams.

The Golden Valley girls will play at Canyon tonight.

The Trinity Classical Academy girls volleyball team beat Newbury Park Adventist in four games. Julia Howell had nine kills for Trinity.

The West Ranch girls tennis team beat the Valencia girls, 10-8, paving the way for perhaps a share of the Foothill League title.

The Fuentes sisters, Ana Lucia and Ana Cecilia, each won two sets in singles play for West Ranch and led their team into a tie for first place in the Foothill League standings with Valencia.

The Hart girls tennis team beat Saugus, 14-4, behind the play of No. 1 singles player Anne Susdorf. Susdorf and Jackie Resler each swept their three singles matches.

In the American League Championship Series, the Yankees lived to fight another day with a 7-2 win over the Texas Rangers. The Yankees jumped out to a 5-0 lead after three innings. Nick Swisher, Robinson Cano and Curtis Granderson each hit solo home runs and the Yankees avoided elimination from the playoffs.

The Rangers still lead the series, 3-2. Game 6 is Friday in Arlington., Texas.

The San Francisco Giants are one win away from the World Series after a 6-5 win over the Philadelphia Phillies in Game 4 of the National League Championship Series.

Juan Uribe knocked in the winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning. His sacrifice fly with one out scored Aubrey Huff and put the Giants up, 3-1, in the series.

Game 5 is tonight in San Francisco. It will be Tim Lincecum for the Giants against Roy Halladay for the Phillies.

In hockey, the Kings beat the Carolina Hurricanes, 4-3, and won their third game in a row. Anze Kopitar had a goal and an assist.

Andrei Loktionov scored the game-winner in the third period.

The Kings hit the road for a game against the Phoenix Coyotes tonight. Pregame starts at 6:30 on AM 1220, KHTS.
