Valencia Grad Shane Vereen To Enter NFL Draft

shane_vereenValencia High graduate and California running back Shane Vereen has decided to forego his senior football season and enter the 2011 NFL Draft.

Vereen was an all-Pac-10 selection gaining 1,167 rushing yards and scoring 13 touchdowns in his junior season. Vereen is among Cal leaders in a number of categories. He is tied for third with 29 rushing touchdowns, tied for fourth in total touchdowns with 35 and fifth in all-purpose yards with 4,069.

Vereen said one of the reasons he wants to enter the NFL Draft and skip his senior season is because he graduated early with a degree in media sciences.

The Master’s College men’s basketball team beat Cal Maritime, 71-66, to win its fifth game in a row.

Leif Karlberg scored 21 points and Anthony Cammon and Joey Fuca each scored 16 for The Master’s College.

The Canyon girls basketball team won the fifth-place game of the West Coast Holiday Classic, 48-34, over Mira Costa.

The Valencia girls basketball team beat Brentwood, 60-24, in the West Coast Holiday Classic. Lauren Spargo led Valencia with 17 points.

The West Ranch girls basketball team lost to St. Paul, 52-47, in the West Coast Holiday Classic. West Ranch’s Whitney Branham scored 12 points and earned a spot on the all-tournament team.

There are a few high school games on the schedule today.

The West Ranch boys basketball team is home against Pacifica.

The Golden Valley boys soccer team is on the road for a game against Alemany.

The Hart girls soccer team hosts Buena.

Just when it looked like the Lakers were turning things around, they lose to the Memphis Grizzlies, 104-85. It was the fourth loss in the past six games for the Lakers.

Kobe Bryant scored 28 points in the loss. The Detroit Pistons are coming to Staples Center for a game against the Lakers on Tuesday night.

The Kings are home for a game against the Chicago Blackhawks tonight. The Kings have lost three games in a row, the most recent a 1-0 loss to the San Jose Sharks on Saturday night.

The Blackhawks have lost three games in a row as well. The Anaheim Ducks beat the Blackhawks, 2-1, last night.
