Valencia High graduate Max Homa was 2-over after six holes in the first round of the US Open golf tournament at Merion Golf Club in Pennsylvania.
Homa had bogeys on the third and fourth holes. Play was suspended because of darkness and the opening round of the US Open was delayed twice by rain and storms.
Phil Mickelson was the leader in the clubhouse with a 3-under 67. Luke Donald was 4-under after 13 holes when play was suspended.
The US Open continues this morning.
In women’s soccer, the Santa Clarita Blue Heat takes on the Bay Area Breeze tonight in a W-League game at The Master’s College.
The Blue Heat are in a little funk and are winless in their past three games. They are coming off a 2-2 draw against the Colorado Rapids on Sunday.
Kickoff for the game between the Blue Heat and the Breeze is at 5.
In the NBA playoffs, the Miami Heat beat the San Antonio Spurs, 109-93, in Game 4 of the NBA Finals.
LeBron James scored 33 points and had 11 rebounds. More importantly, he finally got some help from the Heat’s other big two. Dwyane Wade scored 32 points and Chris Bosh had 20 points and 13 rebounds.
The series is tied 2-2. Game 5 is Sunday in San Antonio.
In baseball, the Dodgers are in Pittsburgh to start a weekend series against the Pirates. Steven Fife gets the start for the Dodgers against Jeff Locke for the Pirates.
