Valencia High’s Alison Lee Misses Cut At U.S. Women’s Open Golf Tournament

khts_sportsValencia HIgh freshman Alison Lee missed the cut in the U.S. Women’s Open at Oakmont Country Club in Pennsylvania. The second round of the golf tournament was suspended because of rain on Friday.

Lee shot a 13-over par, 84, in the second round on Saturday. Her two-day total was 24-over par.

Paula Creamer won the Women’s U.S. Open by four strokes. It was the first major championship of her career.

She shot a 2-under par, 69, on Sunday and was 3-under par for the tournament. Suzann Pettersen and Na Yeon Choi tied for second at 1-over par.

In auto racing, Canyon High graduate Greg Pursley finished eighth in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at Iowa Speedway on Sunday. It was Pursley’s first Truck Series start.

Ron Hornaday Jr., a former Saugus Speedway and four-time Truck Series champion, was 24th in the Iowa Speedway race.

Austin Dillon, the grandson of NASCAR Sprint Cup Series owner Richard Childress, won the race, the first of his Truck Series career.

At Toyota Speedway at Irwindale, a pair of drivers from Santa Clarita won races.

Joe Anderson of Valencia won the S2 stock car race. It was his second win of the season at Irwindale.

Gerrit Cromsigt of Saugus won the NASCAR Super Stocks race. It was his fourth win in a row in the Super Stocks. Rich DeLong III of Santa Clarita finished second and increased his lead in the Super Stocks standings at the track. He is 28 points ahead of Bryan Harrell of Riverside after nine races.

The Lakers lost one of the players off their NBA championship teams. Jordan Farmar signed a three-year, $12 million deal with the New Jersey Nets, according to ESPN. Farmar was on the past two Lakers NBA championship teams. He was drafted out of UCLA by the Lakers in 2006.

The Dodgers routed the Chicago Cubs, 7-0, behind eight shutout innings from Vicente Padilla.

James Loney hit a three-run home run in the first inning and Rafael Furcal doubled and scored two runs for the Dodgers.

Speaking of Furcal, he will be heading to Angel Stadium as a member of the National League All-Star team. Dodgers set-up man Hong-Chih Kuo also made the All-Star team. That makes four Dodgers on the National League All-Stars. Andre Ethier will be starting in the outfield and closer Jonathan Broxton will be in the bullpen.

For those keeping score at home, the Angels have two All Stars on the American League squad. Torii Hunter is a reserve outfielder and Jared Weaver earned a spot as replacement selection on the pitching staff.

The All-Star game is at Angel Stadium in Anaheim on Tuesday.
