Valencia Marches On In CIF Football Playoffs

sportslocalThe Valencia football team won its second-round playoff game by a comfortable margin, 49-22, over Buena. It was a much different story than Valencia’s first-round, one-point win over Thousand Oaks.

Valencia running back Steven Manfro rushed for 99 yards on 13 carries and caught two passes for 109 yards and a touchdown against Buena.

 

Valencia will play Moopark in the semifinals of the CIF Southern Section Northern Division playoffs on Saturday night at Valencia High School.

In the other semifinal game, St. Bonaventure will play Westlake on Friday night.

The Santa Clarita Christian football team will get a chance to repeat as CIF Southern Section 8-man Division I champions. Colin Mayhugh rushed for 203 yards on 13 carries, threw for a touchdown and rushed for another in his team’s 66-22 win over Thacher in the semifinals of the 8-man Division I playoffs.

Santa Clarita Christian will play Faith Baptist in the 8-man Division I championship game.

In high school cross country, the Saugus girls cross country team won its fourth straight CIF state championship at Woodward Park in Fresno over the weekend. Kaylin Mahoney led the Saugus girls, finishing third overall, followed by Karis Frankian in fifth and Stephanie Bulder in 10th.

The Golden Valley boys team finished third in the Division III race. The Canyon boys team was fifth in the Division II race, while the Saugus boys team was 10th in the Division II race.

The West Ranch girls team, making their first trip to the state meet, came in seventh in the Division II race.
