Valencia Primed To Put On A Show Against Great Oak

Valencia Vikings 9-1 (5-0 Foothill League) secured their ninth consecutive league title last week, and head into the Div. 2 playoffs as the No. 3 seed after dismantling the rest of the league and a record setting offense averaging 53.5 points per game.

It was no surprise that the Vikings captured another Foothill League title as they have gone undefeated in league play since 2011 and outscored opponents 535-153 this year.

The only blemish on a near perfect record was a thrilling 65-63 loss to the Calabasas Coyotes finishing up their non-conference schedule.

Since that game at Calabasas, the Vikings’ defense has only allowed a total of 44 points (over five games).

The Vikings face host Great Oak 5-5 (3-2 Southwestern League) who finished second behind the Southwestern League champions and budding Temecula power, Murrieta Valley.

The Vikings’ offense is led by quarterback Connor Downs who has over 2,000 yards passing on the season and has thrown over 20 TDs on the season along with an embarrassment of riches at the skill positions.

Moises Haynes, Mykael Wright and Jayvaun Wilson have accounted for 50 total TDs and will have no problem adding to that total against a mediocre Great Oak team who has allowed 245 points and only scored 221.

Kickoff from Valencia HS is slated for 7:00.
