Valencia Rallies In Bottom Of Seventh To Win Valley Invitational Baseball League Game

khts_sportsValencia rallied in the bottom of the seventh inning to beat Calabasas, 6-5, in a Valley Invitational Baseball League game. Pinch-hitter Jason Spigner drew a bases-loaded walk to score Jake Roberge for the game-winning run.

Shane Zeile homered to lead off the fifth inning. Valencia trailed 4-3 in the fifth when Zeile hit a solo home run over the left field fence to tie the game.

Calabasas went up 5-4 in the sixth inning, but Zeile came through again in the bottom half of the inning with an RBI groundout that scored Kyle Sanchez to tie the game at 5-5.

Valencia won the game in the bottom of the seventh after loading the bases on a single, a walk and an error. Spigner walked to force in the game-winner.

In other Valley Invitational Baseball League games, Golden Valley beat Quartz Hill, 10-4. Golden Valley scored six runs in the first inning and cruised to its seventh win of the summer baseball league.

Riley Sherwood was 3-for-3 with a double and drove in three runs for Golden Valley. Teammate Billy Fredrick was 2-for-4 with a double and drove in two runs.

Hart beat Campbell Hall, 15-7, behind a four-RBI day from Baggio Saldivar. He was 2-for-4 with a double and scored four runs.

Dallas Bacon was 4-for-5 and drove in two runs. Tommy Bilbo was 2-for-4 with a triple and three RBIs.

West Ranch beat Canyon, 6-2. Justin Hovis and Michael Silva each drove in two runs for West Ranch.

The Dodgers completed the sweep of the San Francisco Giants. Matt Kemp came off his two-day benching to hit a home run and drive in three runs in the Dodgers 8-2 win over the Giants.

Vicente Padilla won the 100th game of his career and the Dodgers are three games behind the first place San Diego Padres in the National League West standings.

Rafael Furcal was 4-for-5, scored three runs and drove in two. Jamey Carroll was 2-for-2 with two walks and scored three runs.

The Dodgers have the day off today. Injured outfielder Manny Ramirez will have an MRI on his right hamstring today to determine if he needs to go on the disabled list.

Ramirez injured his hamstring in Tuesday night’s game against the Giants. He is hitting .460 and has 11 RBIs in his past 15 games. Ramirez had one stint on the DL for 15 days earlier in the season. The Dodgers are 13-15 when Ramirez is not in the starting lineup.

They are headed to Arizona for a weekend series with the Diamondbacks starting Friday. Hiroki Kuroda is scheduled to start for the Dodgers against Edwin Jackson for the Diamondbacks. Jackson, once a Dodger, no-hit the Tampa Bay Rays in his last start.

About Connie Jones

Connie and her husband, John, moved to the Santa Clarita Valley almost 30 years ago. Living in Santa Clarita for that long is the direct opposite of Connie’s childhood. She was an Army ‘brat’ who moved every two to three years. Consequently, she has lived in many states and even spent three years in Europe. All three of her kids went to Santa Clarita schools. Connie says the best thing about her job at KHTS is that she is never bored. “If I’m not smiling, Carl is sure to ask why, just before giving me a mind-boggling project.” “KHTS AM-1220 is an integral part of our community and I’m glad to be a part of it. Besides, the DJs will take my request to play Shania Twain’s ‘Still the One’ for my wedding anniversary – gotta love that!”
