Valencia, Saugus Baseball Teams Reach Semifinals Of Easton Tournament

The Valencia and Saugus baseball teams are in the semifinals of the Easton Tournament.

Valencia beat Crespi, 5-3, in the quarterfinals of the tournament. Hunter Holland and AJ Balta each had two hits for the Vikings. Balta had an RBI double.

Saugus beat Quartz Hill, 9-7, in their quarterfinal game. The Centurions were up, 9-3, in the seventh inning and had to stop a late Quartz Hill rally.

Valencia plays Harvard-Westlake in one semifinal match-up on Saturday. Saugus takes on Chaminade in the other semifinal game.

Moorpark shut out Golden Valley, 5-0. Sean Berry pitched a no-hitter with 13 strikeouts for Moorpark.

Canyon beat Buena, 10-2, and won its second game of the season.

Vincent Fitzgerald hit a two-run home and Max Weinstein went 5-for-5 with two RBIs for Canyon.

The Santa Clarita Christian baseball team clobbered Delphi Academy, 33-1. Clint Ross was 4-for-4 with 10 RBIs. He hit a grand slam and a two-run home run. He also had a pair of two-run doubles.

The Master’s College men’s basketball team lost to Arizona Christian, 84-72, and was eliminated from the Golden State Athletic Conference Tournament.

Jason Logan scored 29 points and made four 3-pointers to lead the Mustangs. The Master’s College hit 11 of 34 3-pointers in the game.

The Mustangs trailed by 12 points at halftime, but made a second-half surge to trim the lead to eight points.

In high school swimming, the Hart boys won the Santa Clarita Valley Relays, 85-72, over Valencia at the Aquatics Center.

The Valencia girls edged Hart, 76-75.

In high school tennis, the Hart boys beat La Canada, 11-7.

In the NBA, the Lakers beat the Minnesota Timberwolves, 116-94. Kobe Bryant scored 33 points. The Lakers have won five of their past seven games and 12 of their past 17. They are two games behind the Houston Rockets for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference.

The Clippers beat the Indiana Pacers, 99-91. Chris Paul had 29 points and eight assists.

In spring training baseball, the Dodgers beat the Angels, 10-8, in Arizona. Luis Cruz hit a home run for the Dodgers, his second in spring training.
