Valencia, Saugus Football Teams Pull Off Big Foothill League Wins

khts_sportsThe Valencia and Saugus football teams pulled off a couple stunners in the Foothill League.

Valencia handed Canyon its first loss of the season, 34-7, and is all alone in first place in the Foothill League.

The Vikings scored three touchdowns in the first half and led 24-7 at halftime. Receiver Malik Townsend caught two touchdown passes and running back Jake Solley rushed for 125 yards.

Canyon quarterback Jonathan Jerozal set the school record for passing in the loss. He threw for 178 yards against Valencia and broke Nate Longshore’s career passing record. Jerozal has 6,811 yards passing in his three years as the Canyon quarterback.

Saugus beat Hart, 24-10, and snapped the Indians’ five-game winning streak. Saugus quarterback Jared Carbajal threw two touchdown passes and the Centurions scored 17 points in the third quarter to break a scoreless tie at halftime.

Hart committed three turnovers in the second half. Zack Garcia and Cody Taylor each caught a touchdown pass for Saugus.

The West Ranch football team rallied in the second half to beat Golden Valley, 28-22.

Golden Valley led 22-14 in the fourth quarter, but West Ranch running back Zahr Lyttle scored two rushing touchdowns to give his team a six-point lead.

Golden Valley running back Earl Johnson rushed for 196 yards on 23 carries.

The Santa Clarita Christian football team lost its San Joaquin League opener, 45-13, to Saddleback Valley Christian.

Jacob Nogle rushed for 159 yards and scored a touchdown for Santa Clarita Christian.

In college football, the College of the Canyons lost to Allan Hancock College, 34-27, turning the ball over three times in the game.

COC running back Matt Bowen rushed for 186 yards and scored two touchdowns.

In college soccer, the College of the Canyons men played to a 2-2 draw against LA Mission College. Jesus Salazar and Maayan Schrager scored for COC.
