Valencia Softball Team Blanks Vista Murrieta In CIF Playoffs

khts_sportsThe Valencia softball team scratched out a run in the sixth inning and beat Vista Murrieta, 1-0, in the second round of the CIF Southern Section Division 1 playoffs.

Andrea Brackpool knocked in the only run of the game with a two-out, bad-hop single that scored pinch runner Wendy Cardinali.

Valencia starter Carly Mortensen went the distance, tossing a three-hit shutout. She struck out nine and walked one. She struck out theside in the first and second innings and racked up seven strikeouts in a row.

Valencia moves on to the quarterfinals and awaits the winner of today’s El Modena vs. Etiwanda game.

Brackpool and Mortensen talked about beating Vista Murrieta and advancing the CIF softball playoffs.

The West Ranch softball team lost to Corona Santiago, 6-2, in the second round of the playoffs.

The Vasquez softball team lost to Oxford Academy, 10-1, in the second round of the Division 6 playoffs.

The Valencia baseball team lost to Dana Hills, 8-6.

The Hart baseball team lost, 12-2, to Mater Dei of Santa Ana, the reigning Southern Section Division 1 champs.

In the NBA playoffs, the Miami Heat beat the Chicago Bulls, 101-93 in overtime, in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference finals. The Heat has a 3-1 lead in the series.

Game 5 is Thursday in Chicago.

In the NHL playoffs, the Vancouver Canucks beat the San Jose Sharks, 3-2 in double overtime, in Game 5 of the Western Conference finals.

The Canucks won the series, 4-1, and advance to the Stanely Cup Finals.
