Valencia Softball Team Faces El Modena In CIF Quarterfinals

khts_sportsThe Valencia softball team finally knows which team it will play in the quarterfinals of the CIF Southern Section Division 1 playoffs.

Valencia will face El Modena at home today. El Modena beat Etiwanda, the second-seeded team in the Division 1 playoffs, 12-11, on Wednesday.

Valencia is coming off a 1-0 win over Vista Murrieta on Tuesday to advance to the quarterfinals.

In college golf, the first round of the NAIA Men’s National Championship at the TPC at Deere Run in Illinois was suspended because of severe thunderstorms in the area.

John Lawson from The Master’s College was able to complete his first round and was tied for seventh place with an even par 71.

Three players are tied for first with 3-under par 68s. Play is expected to resume today.

The Los Angeles Lakers are expected to announce today that Mike Brown will be the team’s new coach, according to a number of reports.

Brown was the coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers and LeBron James. He guided the Cavaliers to the NBA Finals in 2007 and twice to the Eastern Conference finals.

In the NBA playoffs, the Dallas Mavericks beat the Oklahoma City Thunder, 100-96, in Game 5 of the Western Conference finals. The Mavericks won the series, 4-1, and advance to the NBA Finals.

In the NHL playoffs, the Tampa Bay Lightning beat the Boston Bruins, 5-4, to force Game 7 in the Eastern Conference finals.

The Lightning scored two goals in the third period to pull out the win in Game 6. Former King Teddy Purcell scored two goals for the Lightning, including one in the decisive third period.

Game 7 is Friday in Boston.
