Valencia Softball Team Improves To 7-0 In Foothill League

khts_sportsThe Valencia softball team scored three runs in the third inning in a 4-0 win over West Ranch. Karlie Habitz hit a solo home run in the fourth inning and Carly Mortensen pitched a two-hit shutout with eight strikeouts.

Valencia has a perfect 7-0 Foothill League record and a two-game lead over second place Hart. West Ranch is 4-3 in league and alone in third place.

West Ranch pitcher Bailey Foster gave up five hits in 4 1/3 innings.

 

The Hart softball team beat Saugus, 2-1. Tracy Chandless and Jessica Jones each homered for Hart.

Pitcher Emili Escamilla struck out five and went the distance.

Saugus collected eight hits and scored a run in the top of the fifth inning tie the game at 1-1.

The Canyon softball team beat Golden Valley, 5-1. Canyon’s Jenny Wunderlich was 2-for-3 with a triple and scored two runs. Tina Dahlquist drove in two runs and was 1-for-3 for Canyon.

The Saugus freshman softball team beat Hart, 12-11, in six innings at the Hart PONY Complex. BriAnn Iniguez had two singles and stole two bases for Saugus. Teammate Samantha Gonzales drove in three runs with a single and a double.

Saugus is 6-1 in the Foothill League and 12-6 overall.

In high school volleyball, the Hart boys beat Saugus in four games. Taylor Gregory had 14 kills to lead Hart. Andrew Uberstine had 14 digs and 11 kills.

Matt Coleman led Saugus with 12 kills.

Hart is 8-1 in the Foothill League and will face undefeated Valencia for the league title on Thursday.

The Golden Valley boys volleyball team beat Canyon in three games. Alec Schlossman had 13 kills and Josh Escoe had 33 assists for Golden Valley.

The Lakers didn’t blow a fourth-quarter lead and beat the Utah Jazz, 111-103, in Game 2 of their NBA playoff series. The Lakers are up two games to none.

Kobe Bryant scored 30 points and had eight assists. The Lakers built a 15-point lead in the second half, but the Jazz cut it to four in the fourth quarter. That was as close as the Jazz would get though, as the Lakers pulled away in the final minutes of the game.
Pau Gasol had 22 points and 15 rebounds for the Lakers.

Game 3 is Saturday night in Salt Lake City.

The Dodgers got rocked by the Milwaukee Brewers, 11-6. The Brewers scored nine runs in the second inning on a pair of two-run home runs by Prince Fielder and Gregg Zaun. Ryan Braun added a three-run double in the inning.

Dodgers starter Clayton Kershaw couldn’t get out of the second inning, giving up seven runs on five hits and two walks. James Loney hit a three-run homer, one of the few highlights in the game for the Dodgers.

The Dodgers and Brewers play again tonight in the second game of their three-game series. Chad Billingsley gets the start for the Dodgers. Doug Davis and his 8.87 ERA are on the mound for the Brewers. Pregame starts at 6:30 on AM 1220, KHTS.
