Valencia Softball Team Sweeps Camarillo On Pair Of Shutouts

khts_sportsThe Valencia softball team has been a stingy bunch in recent games. Pitchers Sarah Enriquez and Carly Mortensen tossed a pair of shutouts in a doubleheader sweep of Camarillo.

Valencia won the first game, 8-0, with Enriquez keeping Camarillo in check. Madison Shipman and Caitlin Rooney homered for Valencia. Megan Fogelsong and Shannon Fitzgerald had doubles.

Mortensen won the second game, 5-0. Shipman hit another home run and drove in two runs in the second game.

Lauren Boser also homered, Rooney knocked in two runs and Ally Peskay went 1-for-3 with a single.

Canyon’s Leanne Hill tossed a two-hitter and struck out 16 batters in her team’s 6-2 win over Culver City. Danielle Sullivan had three hits including a home run and drove in two runs.

The West Ranch softball team, fresh off winning the Hart tournament, heads to the High Desert Classic on Friday. West Ranch opens against Quartz Hill. Canyon is also in the High Desert Classic and plays Burbank in its first game.

The Santa Clarita Christian softball team beat Lutheran, 17-13, and won its first game of the season.

Brenna O’Neill went 3-for-5 with a home run and five RBIs. Rachel Soriano and Kaitlyn Preheim each drove in three runs and Amanda Mothershead went 3-for-4 with a walk and scored three runs.

The Santa Clarita Christian baseball team beat Delphi Academy, 12-2. Micah Secor went 4-for-4 with a double and scored four runs. Trenton Garrison was 3-for-4 with two RBIs and scored three runs.

In college baseball, The Master’s College lost to Concordia, 22-0. The Master’s College was held to three hits and Concordia jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the first-inning.

The Master’s College’s Ben Ives collected two of his team’s three hits.

The Clippers, believe it or not, won a game. They beat the Milwaukee Bucks, 101-93, and snapped an eight-game losing streak.

Six Clippers scored in double figures. Drew Gooden put up a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds.

The Clippers will have a few days to savor this victory. They don’t play again until Sunday against the Sacramento Kings. Maybe they can make it two wins in a row.

In hockey, the Kings are home against the Chicago Blackhawks tonight. The Blackhawks are mired in a three-game losing streak, most recently a 4-2 loss to the Anaheim Ducks last night.

The Kings are coming off a 3-2 overtime loss to the Nashville Predators on Sunday. Pregame starts at 7 on AM 1220, KHTS.

About Connie Jones

Connie and her husband, John, moved to the Santa Clarita Valley almost 30 years ago. Living in Santa Clarita for that long is the direct opposite of Connie’s childhood. She was an Army ‘brat’ who moved every two to three years. Consequently, she has lived in many states and even spent three years in Europe. All three of her kids went to Santa Clarita schools. Connie says the best thing about her job at KHTS is that she is never bored. “If I’m not smiling, Carl is sure to ask why, just before giving me a mind-boggling project.” “KHTS AM-1220 is an integral part of our community and I’m glad to be a part of it. Besides, the DJs will take my request to play Shania Twain’s ‘Still the One’ for my wedding anniversary – gotta love that!”
