The Valencia girls volleyball team got a little more than they expected in the first round of the CIF Southern Section Division I-A playoffs.
Valencia, the Foothill League champs, won its first-round match, but it took five games to polish off visiting Villa Park, the fourth-place team out of the Century League in Orange County.
Katie Hank had a team-high 26 kills and Carly Carapella had 46 assists for Valencia.

In other games, West Ranch had little trouble with visiting Calvary Chapel, winning in three games to advance to the second round of the playoffs.
Hart and Saugus were eliminated in their first-round matches.
Hart was swept in three games by Laguna Beach. Breena Beckett had six kills and 10 blocks in her team’s loss.
Saugus took Arroyo Grande to five games, but fell short of winning its first round match. Jaclyn Clark had a team-high 20 kills and 17 digs and Sarah Blomgren had 11 kills and five blocks.
Santa Clarita Christian handled Shandon easily in a three-game sweep in the first round of the Division V-AA playoffs. Natalie Keoshian had seven kills to lead Santa Clarita Christian.
In college volleyball, The Master’s College women’s team lost in four games to Westmont. It was The Master’s College’s third loss in a row.
The College of the Canyons women’s team swept Glendale College in three games.
In college soccer, the College of the Canyons women’s team scored two second half goals and beat Glendale College, 2-0. Sarina Coutin and Ashley Hill scored for COC, winners of four of their last five games.
