Valencia, West Ranch, Hart Football Teams Win Foothill League Openers

news_sportsThe Valencia, Hart and West Ranch football teams started Foothill League play on winning notes.

Valencia and West Ranch posted impressive, eerily similar, wins in their Foothill League openers. Valencia beat an overmatched Canyon team, 49-7. West Ranch beat an inexperienced Golden Valley team by the same score, 49-7.

Valencia quarterback Alex Bishop threw three touchdowns, two to Jake Reed in the second half.

West Ranch’s Patrick Kelly scored a pair of defensive touchdowns, one on a fumble recovery, the other on an interception.

Hart quarterback CJ Reyes threw two touchdown passes and running back Jake Stephens scored two touchdowns in their team’s 31-21 win over Saugus.

Santa Clarita Christian’s Ethan Espinosa rushed for 106 yards on 25 carries, but his team lost, 48-16, to The Thacher School in Ojai.

In college football, little used College of the Canyons running back Anthony Johnson scored on a 41-yard run in his team’s 14-6 win over Glendale College.

COC defensive back Antwan Smith retuned an interception for a touchdown in the fourth quarter to seal the victory.

About Connie Jones

Connie and her husband, John, moved to the Santa Clarita Valley almost 30 years ago. Living in Santa Clarita for that long is the direct opposite of Connie’s childhood. She was an Army ‘brat’ who moved every two to three years. Consequently, she has lived in many states and even spent three years in Europe. All three of her kids went to Santa Clarita schools. Connie says the best thing about her job at KHTS is that she is never bored. “If I’m not smiling, Carl is sure to ask why, just before giving me a mind-boggling project.” “KHTS AM-1220 is an integral part of our community and I’m glad to be a part of it. Besides, the DJs will take my request to play Shania Twain’s ‘Still the One’ for my wedding anniversary – gotta love that!”
