Valencia’s Alison Lee Reaches Quarterfinals Of Championship

Valencia High graduate Alison Lee won her round of 16 match at the US Women’s Amateur golf championship and is in the quarterfinals.

Lee defeated Alexandra Harkins from Crystal Lake, Ill., 3 and 2 in the round of 16 at the Country Club of Charleston in South Carolina.

Lee, the seventh-seeded player in the tournament, will play Katelyn Sepmoree from Tyler, Texas, in the quarterfinals today.

Hart High graduate Johnny MacArthur lost in the semifinals of the SCGA match play event at Annandale Golf Course in Pasadena.

MacArthur, who plays on the Pepperdine men’s golf team, lost 2 and 1 to Sean Crocker, a senior at Westlake High School.

Niall Platt, a senior at the University of Notre Dame, won the SCGA Match Play championship, 2 up against Crocker. It was Platt’s second SCGA Match Play championship in a row.

In auto racing, Johnny Ahten, the fire captain at Station 76 in Valencia, reached the second round of the Seattle NHRA Northwest Nationals in the top alcohol dragster division.

He won his first-round race over Greg Sereda. But Ahten fell to Duane Shields in the second round of eliminations.

At Willow Springs International Raceway in Rosamond, Late Models, Streets Stocks, Hobby Stocks, Bombers and Mini Stocks are in action on Saturday night.

Jared King holds a two-point lead over Chris Peedan in the Late Models standings. Dylan Buxton is two points ahead of Will Cottrell in the Street Stocks standings.

The standings in the other divisions are just as close. Races start at 7.

In baseball, the Dodgers beat the Cardinals, 5-1, in St. Louis and took three of four games in the series against the Red Birds.

AJ Ellis his a three-run home run to give the Dodgers a 4-1 lead.

The Dodgers are 17-3 since the All Star break.

They return home to start a weekend series against the Tampa Bay Rays tonight.
