Valencia’s Carly Mortensen Shuts Down Oxnard Softball Team

khts_sportsValencia’s Carly Mortensen came up with a big-time performance against visiting Oxnard on Tuesday.

She tossed a four-hitter and struck out 11 in a 1-0 shutout over Oxnard. Sarah Solano drove in the only run of the game with a single in the second inning.

Mortensen made the run stand up and she recorded her eighth win of the season.

The Hart softball team has a doubleheader against San Marino today.

The Trinity softball team is on the road for a game against Hillcrest Christian at the Granada Hills Rec Center.

The Foothill League baseball season opens today with all six teams in action.

Valencia, the four-time reigning Foothill League champion, travels to play Golden Valley.

Hart, which has made the CIF playoffs every year since 1987, is on the road and plays Saugus.

The West Ranch baseball team is home for a game against Canyon.

In high school golf, the Hart boys play Burbank in a match at Robinson Ranch.

In high school tennis, the West Ranch boys are home for a match against Buckley.

The Valencia boys play Viewpoint at the Warner Center in Woodland Hills.

In high school swimming, Golden Valley has a meet against Burbank.

In baseball, the Dodgers lost to the Rockies, 5-2, in a Cactus League game. Dodgers starter Chris Capuano got a little roughed up, giving up three runs in 2 2/3 innings. He struck out four and gave up two hits and walked two.

In hockey, the Kings beat the Detroit Red Wings, 5-2, for their second win in a row.

Drew Doughty scored a goal and had an assist for the Kings.
